Vision: Kapolei Middle School is an enthusiastic community that promotes life-long learning and success.
Mission: The mission of Kapolei Middle School is to assure the social and academic growth of every child so that each has the knowledge and ability to be successful in high school.
Goal: To engage all staff, students, families, and community in working together as a learning community that is dedicated to caring and supporting, active participation, and positive expectations for all students as they transition from elementary to high school.
Philosophy: Our role is to ease the transition from elementary through middle school to high school. We believe middle school concepts will achieve this.

  • Please park in a marked stall, even if it's for a short time. If a marked stall is not available, you may use the main driveway (park on left side).
  • If you are making a visit, please sign in at the Main Office and obtain a Visitor Pass. Do not go directly to your destination without a pass.
  • Please do not cross the bushes in the parking lot fronting the office. We are trying to preserve the grass for as long as possible. Please use the walkway provided.
  • Drop off and pick up students at the Kama'aha Ave. side of campus or in the marked areas along Kapolei Parkway. Do not stop along Kapolei Parkway, in the Parking Lot, or in the bus lanes during school hours due to safety reasons.
  • If students arrive at school between 7:55-8:00 a.m., they report directly to their AR or Advisory room.
  • If students arrive at school after 8:00 a.m., they report to the Attendance Office for a verification slip.
  • If students are absent from school, upon their return, they must give the Attendance Office a note stating the date(s) of absence, reason for absence, and parent signature. They will be given a verification slip that all teachers must sign.
  • Students are responsible for obtaining any missed or make-up work. Parents can check for assignments through Edline.

Kapolei Middle School follows all guidelines as stated in the Department of Education's Chapter 19 Handbook, available at the Main Office. The school also maintains specific rules and regulations unique to the conditions and arrangement of our campus which include classroom rules established by teachers and teams. All specific and unique rules are explained to students when they report to KMS during their first week of learning.

  • CONTINUING students register through their Homeroom teachers at specified dates during the school year (usually around January or February).
  • NEW students must register at the Attendance Office and show proof of residence in the geographic area that Kapolei Middle School services.
  • GEOGRAPHIC EXCEPTIONS [GEs] are considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact the Registrar's office for an application.
ID cards

Each student receives an ID card, which must be worn at all times on campus. This card allows students to buy lunch, borrow library books, and attend field trips. Replacement cards cost $5.00.

  • All items that contain wheels (bikes, skateboards, razors, etc.) are not allowed on campus even during non-school hours. These will be confiscated during school hours. Bikes must be locked up at the designated bike racks.
  • Kapolei Middle School is off-limits at all times to all non-staff and non-students unless they are involved in an approved on-campus activity.
dress code

KMS shirtKMS is a uniform school. Students are required to wear a uniform T-shirt and appropriate pants, shorts, or skirts every day. Uniforms are available at Education Works near the Dole Cannery Theaters.

Unacceptable: Short shorts, backless, strapless tops/dresses; reveals cleavage, midriff, stomach, and/or buttocks; clothing that shows gang affiliation, drugs, alcohol, sex, profanity, violence, and anything illegal (these items will not be returned).

Students will be sent to the Health Room for a loaner T-shirt if they report to school without the appropriate attire.

student planner

Each student receives a complimentary Student Planner. The Student Planner is a vital form of daily communication between the school and families. The planner must be kept in good condition (e.g., no torn out pages to reduce weight, no spine removed) throughout the school year. Replacement planners cost $5.00.

acceptable network use

Every student will be issued a network account. This account is a privilege, not a right. All rules and guidelines must be met or students may face penalties as severe as loss of network access. Students and parents are required to sign the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) before a student account is activated. Improper use of the school's network will result in having this account locked (temporarily) or deleted (in the case of extreme and repetitive offenses).

health room
  • Hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • Students must have a signature in their student planner or must be issued a pass in order to enter the Health Room during class time (except for emergencies). No passes are needed during non-class time and P.E. classes.
  • Within the first ten minutes of each class, students who complain of "stomachache" or "headache" will not be admitted. Students should report to Health Room for these conditions during non-class time.
student government
  • Dues: Dues are $10.00 per student. These dues help to cover the cost of student activities such as assemblies, school dances, and other school wide activities.
  • Store: The Student Government Store is located in C Building next to the Chorus classroom. Hours of operation and the availability of items for sale will be announced during Advisory classes.
  • Student Government: Our Kapolei Middle School Student Government has officers for each grade level. The officers meet once a week with the Student Activities Coordinator to plan and carry out fun, educational, and entertaining activities for our whole student body.
